As we announced back in March, the new BMW 6 Series Coupe will make its world debut at the upcoming New York and Shanghai auto shows. Along with the new premiere, BMW of North America will also introduce the first US-bound BMW to receive the new 4-cylinder TwinPower N20 engine.
No clues have been given at the moment, but as we said in the past, we expect the BMW Z4 sDrive30i to first receive the new engine, followed in the summer by the BMW 528i when the xDrive will be available as well. Both vehicles are currently equipped with the six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, one of the last of its kind in the BMW lineup.
The star of the show for BMW will be the 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe which launches this fall with the V8 turbocharged engine. The BMW 650i Coupe will be followed by other offerings in the high-end coupe class.
With the new BMW 6 Series, BMW has another opportunity to outline the new design language under chief designer Adrian Van Hooydonk. Escaping from the sometimes radical and adventurous Bangle design, the new 6er Coupe is an evolution of the previous model, but its design lines continue to emit a strong presence.
The F12 6 Series Coupe comes to emphasize this new design language at BMW which started in 2009 with the E89 Z4, followed shortly by the F01/F02 7 Series and last year’s big seller, F10 5 Series. The high-end Coupe features shorter rear deck and a dramatic slope of the rear light, along with perfect proportions. The road presence is impressive and it aims to stand out amongst the crowd.
The unique shape of the headlights are inspired from the Gran Coupe Concept, the four-door coupe that will come next year to further expand the flagship offerings from BMW. The L-shape taillights continue to remain a BMW icon and the full LED treatment bring out the luxury and sportiness from the new 6.
Pricing is also expected to be announced next on April 20th at the NYC Auto Show. As always, stay tuned for exclusive coverage from the event, and for a couple more surprises at the BMW stand.
