DRIVE and Chris Harris deliver a great video review of the BMW M550d xDrive. The new high performance diesels from BMW are powered by a tri-turbo engine that develops 381 horsepower and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque.
The diesel technology developed exclusively for the BMW M Performance Automobiles also offers increased fuel economy. The M550d Sedan offers fuel economy figures of 6.3 liters per 100 kilometers in the EU test cycle, while the Touring achieves 6.4 l/100 km. CO2 emissions are 165 grams per kilometer for the BMW M550d xDrive Sedan and 169 g/km in the case of the BMW M550d xDrive Touring.
Aside from the super potent diesel engine, the M550d xDrive comes with a series of upgrades from the M division: M-tuned suspension, bodyshell mounting, engine and transmission mounting, springs and dampers, all standard and optional chassis control systems, and the Servotronic mapping for the hydraulic steering.
Official figures say the BMW M550d xDrive Sedan goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds, while the BMW M550d xDrive Touring records 4.9 seconds for the same sprint. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) in both cases.
