A new spy video of the 2014 BMW X5 emerges from Germany.
The F15 X5 will feature more flowing character lines and sculpted surfaces that will broaden the design of the X family giving it a more stocky and dynamic look.
At the front end, as seen in the video below, the new X5 will feature a sportier kidney grille, larger, wider and more imposing than the previous generation. Behind the camouflage we can also see the transition from kidneys to the headlights, similar to the one seen on the recently launched F30 3 Series sedan.
Technically, the third-generation X5 is based on the architecture of the 5 Series which provides significant contribution to weight reduction – more than 100 kilograms – despite the ever growing dimensions. The lower weight also lays the groundwork for smaller engines to be used in the X5, like both petrol and diesel four-cylinder units.
Above the economical engines, there will be a set of turbocharged six and eight-cylinders that will produce enough power to satisfy the sporty taste of some owners. BMW also plans a diesel-hybrid with a four-cylinder engine that will further improve the fuel efficiency. The X5 will come standard with an xDrive platform, but it remains unknown if BMW will aim to build rear-wheel drive variants, similar to the X1.
The interior, especially for Chinese customers, will reach new luxury levels and also offer numerous possibilities for customization. Standard equipment will include the latest infotainment 3D iDrive, the iDrive Touch controller and the multi-functional instrument display. Other gadgets such as Head-Up Display or Night Vision will be offered as well.
