BMWBLOG headed last month to Portugal to test drive the new BMW M6 Competition Package.
At the Estoril Race Track, we got behind the wheel of a BMW M6 with the new Competition Package to see what the M engineers have prepared for the super-sporty M5 and M6 models.
To show the journalists how the car performs when in hands of a professional driver BMW M invited DTM race driver Marco Wittmann and reigning champion Bruno Spengler to give us some hot laps around the famous race track.
In the video below, two GoPro cameras captured the performance of the M6 with Marco Wittmann behind the wheel while racing a BMW M instructor.
Before jumping into the video, here is a recap of the Competition Package.
The 575 horsepower Competition Package comes with a series of upgrades to the chassis and ride settings. The M engineers have revised the suspension and damping systems, the stabilizer bars have also been more tautly tuned. In the BMW M6 this adjustment has resulted in a lowering of the car by around 10 millimeters. The Competition Package also has stiffer front axle while the Active M Differential offers improved traction.
The additional 15 horsepower are achieved via boost mapping.
The M Dynamic mode of the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system is even more acutely geared to sporty handling characteristics. The package additionally includes exclusively designed 20-inch M light-alloy wheels style 601M with performance tires. The customers also have the option to choose the 343M 20-inch wheels.
The sport exhaust system comes with black chrome tailpipes and BMW says it’s positioned between the stock exhaust system and the M Performance Exhaust system, but not made out of titanium.
