The first BMW M4 Coupe has its world debut today at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. Along with the BMW M3 (Yas Marina Blue), the M4 Coupe is the main attraction at the BMW booth.
Sporting its launch color, Austin Yellow, the M4 Coupe can be configured with the same exterior color pallet as the M3. The interior upholstery and trim options are also identical. The M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe can be ordered in Alpine White, Sakhir Orange, Black Sapphire, Silverstone, Mineral White, Mineral Grey, Austin Yellow and Yas Marina.
U.S. pricing will be announced in early 2014, but in the UK the prices for the M3 sedan start at £56,175, while the M4 Coupe starts at £56,653.
Design wise, the two M models are similar. They both sport the same front end, but with changes in the rear. The BMW M4 Coupe features an integrated rear spoiler and is made from particularly lightweight carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic. As well as performing a functional aerodynamic role, the tailgate also contributes significantly to the BMW M4’s standalone design.
The M3 Sedan comes with a clearly defined Gurney spoiler at the rear.
Both cars come with an CFRP roof, for the first time in the history of the M3. Now, for the first time, the four-door BMW M3 will get this striking design and functional feature as well. The CFRP roof brings weight savings of five kilograms in the case of the BMW M3 Sedan and more than six kilograms in the case of the BMW M4 Coupe. It also lowers the vehicle’s centre of gravity, which has a positive impact on driving dynamics.
