BMW plant in Leipzig today launched the series production of the BMW 2 Series Convertible. The new model replaces the BMW 1 Series Convertible, which was built in Leipzig from 2007 to the end of 2013.
With a total of 130,000 vehicles sold worldwide, the BMW 1 Series Convertible was the most successful open premium model in its class.
For the production launch of the BMW 2 Series Convertible, the manufacturing lines have been adjusted at the Leipzig plant and staff was trained for the new model.
With the new BMW 2 Series Convertible, 2 Series Coupe, 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1 and the BMW 1 Series five-door, the factory now produces five different models on one production line, providing flexibility for customers around the world. In addition, since fall 2013, BMW i3 electric car is also producued in Leipzig. The i8 production joined in May 2014.
The BMW 2 Series Convertible and the BMW M Performance Automobile BMW M235i Convertible will be delivered to the first customers in February 2015. The premium convertible will be offered with the following lines: Advantage, Luxury Line, Sport Line and M Sport.
