Here is an acceleration test between the new BMW M4 and its predecessor, the E92 M3. The head-to-head acceleration takes them to nearly 280 km/h.
The E92 M3 is powered by the S65 4.0 liter V8 naturally aspirated engine producing 420 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The new M3/M4 drop the V8 for a 3.0 liter six-cylinder turbocharged unit outputting 431 hp and 550 Nm of torque – nearly identical horsepower but a significant difference in torque.
Weight wise, the M4 has the home field advantage also, with 1572 kg versus 1655 kg for the E92 M3.
