The second BMW 1 Series Facelift model displayed in Geneva comes with the Urban Line. The Advantage, Sport Line, Urban Line and M Sport packages are available as an alternative to standard specification providing fresh scope for targeted individualization.
The sporty compact hatch builds atop the success of the somewhat controversial pre-facelifted model and comes to market to challenge the likes of Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz A-Class. While the 1 Series Hatch is still a non-US affair, the excitement around the new facelift remains high. Karim Habib’s design team has been hard at work trying to correct some of the design shortcomings of the previous generation and deliver on their promise of creating both emotional and premium cars.
The great changes of the light units are not typical of BMW facelifts in recent years and without a question it suggests that BMW has learned from the feedback received on the previous model. The headlights have been heavily revised and are now slimmer, more angular and with a sporty eyebrow that gives the front-end a more unified look.
The two-part taillights are the next big change on the 1 Series Facelift. They now feature floating LED tubes inside the lights giving the car a more dynamic look from behind. The revised tailgate comes to complete the new butt design.
A newly designed BMW kidney grille and larger air intakes remind us that the 1 Series is a serious hot hatch ready to take on any competitors.
Despite the changes, the BMW 1 Series 2015 remains independent and optically not too close to the BMW 2 Series family.
The new 3-door and 5-door BMW 1 Series models also come with a comprehensively revised engine line-up and additional measures designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, allowing them to lead the way once again in the introduction of new BMW EfficientDynamics technology.
The 1 Series BMW now comes with a selection of five petrol and five diesel engine options. With petrol engines, only the BMW M135i is now offered with xDrive, while the diesel engines provide the solution with the BMW 120d xDrive and BMW 118d xDrive, packing the needed punch in both power and torque in the new 1 Series models.
The market launch for the new 1 Series Facelift is set for March 28, 2015 with entry level BMW 116i (109 hp) priced at 22,950 euros. The five-door hatch with the three cylinder petrol is priced at 23,700 euros.
In general, the extra charge for the five-door is 750 euro, regardless of the engine. The three-cylinder (B37) powered BMW 116d, which is available from the end of March also will go for 26,200 euros.
