Consumer Reports puts together a top of most efficient cars to drive in the city and on highways. At the top of the list for both Best City MPG Car and Best Highway MPG Car is the BMW i3 BEV.

Second best MPG car for the city is the Ford Focus Electric with 108 MPGe, short of i3’s 135 MPGe. Third place goes to Mitsubishi i SE with 104 MPGe. BMW i3’s direct competitors, the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt are rated at 86, respectively 76 MPGe, and are ranked fifth and sixth. For the highway rating, the Leaf and Volt are rated 118 MPGe which puts them second and third, respectively. Tesla Model S (85 kWh) is rated at 65 MPG which puts it at number 8 on the list.

Other premium automakers present in these lists are the Lexus with their CT 200h Premium hybrid car (31 MPG) and ES 300h (28 MPG). The Audi A7 3.0 TDI (41 MPG) and Mercedes-Benz E250 BlueTec (41 MPG) are also listed in the Best MPG car for the city.

BMW gets another mention on the highway MPG list with the 328d xDrive, the 2.0 liter four-cylinder diesel which returns an MPG of 49.
