Along with the photos leak this morning, AutoExpress UK also revealed the pricing for the BMW M2 in the UK: £44,070 pounds for the manual and £46,575 for the 7-speed M DCT. The number of units available for the UK market is 500 – it remains unclear whether production will continue in 2017. US pricing will be announced at a later date, but latest rumors put the MSRP at $51,000 for the manual.
The M2 gets a turbo 3.0-liter inline six turned up to 370 horsepower and 343 lb-ft of torque. An additional 25 lb-ft of torque comes from an overboost function. The gearboxes, brakes, front and rear axles, crankshaft and pistons come from the M4.
The magazine says the M2 is 35 kilograms lighter than the M235i. All of that power allows the M2, with the optional M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) in place and Launch Control activated, to sprint from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds (4.5 s with the six-speed manual gearbox).
We’re sitting on a lot more details around the BMW M2, but unfortunately the press embargo has not been lifted yet – despite the leaks. Check back on BMWBLOG for full details and an extensive gallery of pictures on the latest M car.
