A 700 horsepower, heavily tuned BMW M5 takes on one of the best supercars ever built – the Ferrari 458 Italia. For a change, the drag race forgoes the rolling start to even out the playfield. We’ve seen the same video a month ago, but at the time, the M5 was presented as being stock. Instead, the M5 was tuned by BimmerTuning to produce 700 horsepower and comes with the super sporty Akrapovic exhaust system.
The torque numbers are not available, but we expect the M5 to produce more than the stock 501 lb-ft.
The highly aero-optimized 458 Italia makes 570 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque – that propels the Ferrari to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds. Thanks to its lower weight – around 1000 lbs – the 458 Italia is faster through the first 62 mph, but the M5 with its massive torque is likely to pull ahead over a longer distance.
The video footage is a bit unclear when it comes to the winner – due to a weird filming angle – but a closer look seems to show the M5 reaching the end of the runway before the Ferrari.
