Gus Malzahn, the head coach at Auburn University and one of the most respected coaches in college football is also now the proud owner of a BMW i8. Malzahn has recently turned 50 and the high-tech hybrid sportscar was the chosen gift.
“I’ve never had a sports car,” Malzahn told reporters. “I turned 50 and figured it was time to go ahead and get one.”
Even quarterback Tray Bishop is impressed by the looks and the tech put out by the i8.
“It was crazy. I never pictured myself riding in something like that. I see sports cars all the time but I never pictured myself riding, like where I wanted to be in life.”
Currently in showrooms and priced at $141,695 including $995 Destination & Handling, the 2016 BMW i8 also features for the first time Laser Lights as an option.
BMW i8 uses a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a turbocharged three-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine and BMW eDrive technology in the form of an electric drive system. The 1.5-liter combustion engine develops 170 kW/231 hp and drives the rear wheels of the BMW i8, while the 96 kW/131 hp electric drive sends its power to the front wheels and allows an all-electric range of up to 35 kilometers (22 miles) and a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph).
