The upcoming 2018 BMW M5 and the new BMW M4 GTS are tearing up together the track at the legendary Nurburgring. The two powerful M cars were filmed during some hot laps last week and give us a glimpse at what’s in store from the M division.

While the M4 GTS just had its world premiere on the track in Barcelona, the next generation F90 M5 is still two years away. The BMW M4 GTS makes use of the multi-award-winning M TwinPower Turbo engine with 493 hp, a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds, water-injection and manually adjustable shocks – the M4 GTS is ready to munch almost anything that comes to the track.

The M4 GTS recorded a lap time of 7 minutes 28 seconds around Nurburgring-Nordschleife.

The new M5 will be a lighter car than the current F10 M5, thanks to the new G30 5 Series platform. BMW has learned a lot from BMW i and CFRP and aluminum components will be at the core at all future models, not just the F90 M5.

Under the hood, the new M5 will use a revised version of the 4.4 liter V8 TwinTurbo with around 600 horsepower. The engine is likely to receive some components upgrade which will help deliver not only better performance but also higher efficiency. While not as quick as the M4 GTS on the Ring, the new F90 M5 is expected to hold its own with comparable competitors.
