We’ve grown used to seeing M cars racing all sorts of rivals on the drag strip, even punching way above their weight most of the time, but rarely have we seen them go up against the finest supercars in the world. Like this Ferrari. While comparing BMWs with Porsches might be a bit of a stretch, going even further and pitting them against the likes of Lamborghini or Ferrari is an even more daring attempt.
The BMW M4 is a true M car that took a lot of people by surprise. However, it did so thanks to its balance and agility, not power output which is a merely 11 HP increase over its E90/E92 M3 predecessors.
As soon as the S55 3-liter biturbo plant came out, tuners started fiddling with it and we’ve seen cars go up to even 740 HP at the wheels, outputs worthy of supercar status. As a matter of fact, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta has that exact output coming from its engine bay, thanks to a 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V12. And that’s exactly the car that lines up at the starting line on a drag strip in Russia, next to a heavily tuned M4.
According to the video description, the BMW was tuned by KK-Performance and it is now capable of delivering 700 HP from its 3-liter straight six engine. Putting all that power down will be tricky, especially since the M4 wasn’t built to roll with that type of sheer grunt on the rear axle. On the other hand, the Ferrari is stock and has some 40 HP on the M4 and was created with this kind of performance in mind.
Therefore, it does seem like the Italian is the clear favorite here but you might not want to bet on it just yet. The outcome of the race is a bit… surprising, if you will.
