The Fisker Karma gets a second chance at life with an updated version called the Karma Revero, a plug-in hybrid targetting the BMW i8, Tesla Model S and Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid. Existing Karma owners will be given “exclusive access” to a website that gives them the chance to reserve a Revero before the general public on September 8.
While technical details were not disclosed, Karma Automotive said the Revero will feature a solar roof that will “create enough energy to power the car.” A redesigned infotainment system and supercharging features will be part of the package.
Owned by Chinese auto parts company Wanxiang Group, the formerly called Fisker Automotive has moved production tools and equipment to California from Finland and plans to start selling their cars under the Revero name. The new name is a combination of the Latin “re” and “vero,” which the company says translates to “truth.”
The new car uses BMW electric vehicle control and charging systems under an agreement reached last year.
Karma Automotive did not release pricing information, although the Revero is expected to cost $100,000 or more. The Revero will be sold at eight U.S. dealerships in key markets.
