We’re huge fans of the new G30-generation BMW 5 Series and are waiting with bated breath for the debut of the BMW M550i, followed by the upcoming M5. However, there’s another variant that’s also on its way which we might be even more excited about — the BMW ALPINA B5 Biturbo Touring.
The ALPINA B5 Biturbo Touring will probably be just as fast and exciting as the BMW M550i, just with added luxury and practicality. All ALPINAs pack M-level performance except with higher levels of luxury and a level of craftsmanship far above anything from most stock manufacturers, even most of the BMWs they’re based on. So, naturally, we’re excited to hear that there’s going to be an ALPINA variant of a car that we already love.
In this new teaser video, ALPINA shows off a camouflaged 5 Series Touring tackling some twisty mountain roads with some pretty aggressive driving. Even through the camouflage, you can see the typical ALPINA front bumper and some body bits. The classic ALPINA wheels are also present and look fantastic, as usual.
We don’t know what sort of powertrain will be in the ALPINA B5 but considering that we’re hearing it’s going to be a Biturbo, we’re expecting an ALPINA-tuned variant of the 4.4 liter V8. If that’s the case, it should rival the BMW M550i in terms of power and performance but will likely not be the dynamic machine the M550i will be. But it will more than make up for that with extra luxury and practicality.
That added practicality will come in the for of its wagon body style. Considering that BMW won’t be making a Touring variant of the M550i or the M5, the ALPINA B5 Biturbo will be the only performance wagon variant of the 5 Series that customers in Europe can buy.
Check out the video and get excited about the upcoming reveal for the next ALPINA.
