The Competition Package for the BMW M3 and M4 is by far the most important upgrade M engineers delivered to the popular sportscars. Among the upgrades, not only you will find a new suspension setup and tighter settings, but also a small bump in power. The stock M3 has 431 PS coming out of its 3-liter straight six twin-turbo engine, but the Competition Package model delivers with 450 PS out of the box. The extra 20 HP might not blow you away, but they do make a difference when the car is pushed hard.
Of course, the engineering focus was on making it handle better in the first place, with straight line performance falling in second place. The fact that the torque figure remained the same, further emphasizes that idea. That doesn’t mean the car is a slouch in a straight line though, as the video posted below will show you, with the M3 Competition Package reaching its 250 km/h (155 mph) in a matter of seconds.
According to BMW’s official figures, the DCT-fitted model reaches 62 mph from standstill in just 4 seconds, a figure that can go even lower as long as you can find traction. Getting off the line as efficiently as possible is key to achieve the best results in a straight line. As a matter of fact, the guys from Motorsport Magazine managed a perfect launch when they recorded the video posted below, of course using BMW’s Launch Control feature.
