When Rolls-Royce pulled the veils off its latest creation at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este a couple of weeks back, nobody expected to see the Sweptail out on public roads. After all, being the most expensive new car ever built, people would understandably assume that it would be shipped to and from various events around the world inside a trailer. Well, it seems like its owner had different plans and is actually driving it on public roads.
That’s great news for car lovers out there as we may stumble upon it by mistake, if we just happen to be in the same place as the owner at the same time. One such possibility will show itself once the big beast runs out of fuel, as expensive cars need to be refueled from time to time as well. That’s what happened recently in Italy, where one quick-thinking lad had the spirit to pull out his camera and start recording.
It’s quite interesting to see such a bespoke creation, a truly one of a kind car, pulled into a random gas station. It doesn’t seem to belong there, just as it doesn’t seem to fit on public roads either. I’m not talking about the sheer size of the thing but also about the fact that it feels so special. It’s like seeing a unicorn just casually hanging out with horses inside a random stable in the countryside. It just gives off a weird feeling.
But then again, maybe it’s just me. The fact that the owner decided to drive it back to the UK from the event on the shores of Lake Como in Italy says a lot about him and how he prefers to spend his time and money. I can only salute and praise him for having the courage to actually drive his multi-million unique car on the streets of Italy, otherwise known for how narrow they can get in the blink of an eye.
