A new report published today by Car Magazine brings back to focus the long-time rumored BMW M2 CS. News of a super sporty M2 broke out last year and we’ve reported on it several times. The new article reiterates some of the previously known info – M2 CS will deliver around 400 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque, using a detuned S55 engine imported from the BMW M3 and M4.
The new CS symbol CS on the boot stands for Clubsport and promises additional performance, which will indeed deliver thanks to revised engineering layouts. The M2 CS is likely to be available with the same six-speed manual and 7-speed M-DCT transmissions.
Brakes, wheels and suspension are all beefed up to cope with the CS’s extra performance. The M2 will also lose 55 lbs in its CS spec thanks to an aluminum roof, thinner glass windows, sport seats, and other lightweight components.
A BMW source told Car that the M2 CS runs from 0-62 mph in 4.2 seconds, though its unclear which transmission was used to achieve this result.
The M2 CS will be launched in the second quarter of 2018 and it’s not said to be a limited product.
