Now that BMW launched its first M Performance model part of the 7 Series range, people can finally say that the Munich-based company has some sort of rival for the top dogs from their arch enemies in Germany. It’s not like the old 760Li wasn’t being compared to the S63 AMG or the Audi S8, but this time BMW made it official by throwing an ‘M’ in the equation, to highlight the athletic capabilities of its new model.
And this one proved to be quite the competitor. Compared to older generation 7 Series models that also had V12 engines under their hood, the new M760Li also comes with xDrive, as its full name suggests. Not only that but the engine was also tuned to make more power than you could ever need: 610 PS and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft). Together, they make sure the car reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in just 3.7 seconds. Impressive, right?
Well, the competition hasn’t been idle either. In the review posted below you get to see the M760Li xDrive go up against the already old S63 AMG from Mercedes and even older Audi S8 Plus. Mercedes’ S63 was just updated and now uses an even more powerful yet smaller 4-liter V8 under the hood while the new A8 was just unveiled with a fresh S8 in the making.
This comparison can also be regarded as a run between a V12 and two V8 mills. While the Merc uses a 5.5-liter 585 PS engine, the S8 Plus uses a 4-liter twin-turbo mill making 605 PS and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Unfortunately, the 13-minute review is in Russian and we can’t really understand what is said about the three. Even so, the drag race doesn’t need no explanation and can be seen starting at the 3:45 mark.
