This week, BMW of North America invited us and a few select journalists to one of their annual M Track Days. The location – the beautiful, fast and exciting Circuit Of The Americas in Austin, Texas. The Formula 1 track is regarded as one of the fastest circuits in the US, if not in the world, with two long straightaways and extremely fast corners.
And to make things even more exciting, BMW has not only brought to the play date a series of M cars, but also some of them decked out with the entire range of M Performance Parts. One of them was a BMW M2 in Long Beach Blue featuring the following parts: black kidney grilles, black side gills, carbon fiber mirror caps, carbon fiber front apron, side skirts, rear diffuser, rear spoiler lid, side M Performance illuminated door sill, M Performance exhaust system with titanium tips and M Performance coilover suspension.
The M Performance brake kit was also fitted to the M2, with the typical blue calipers. The final touch on this project are the M stripes which give the M2 that sporty and show off look. Inside the cabin, this M2 comes with the full carbon fiber treatment, from the dashboard inserts and M Performance Steering Wheel, to the center console and knob shifter.
To properly test the performance of the M2, we asked Matt Mullins, BMW Chief Driving Instructor and Clive Owen’s double and stuntman in the BMW Film – The Escape, to jump aboard and give us a few proper laps, along with a commentary.
