Even though the BMW i8 is due for a facelift next year, BMW hasn’t been sitting idly so far. The Germans have kept the public interested in the i8 by offering a host of special models, the latest under the Protonic Frozen umbrella. And these BMW i8 Protonic cars will be offered in limited numbers to interested customers. If you live in Australia though and are interested in one, you’d better hurry up.
That’s because it seems like only six of these special beauties will make it to the land down under. To add insult to injury, you’ll have to pick your color carefully. If you’re a fan of the Frozen Yellow Protonic BMW i8 you should know that only one of those will be allocated to the Australian market. Arriving in November, BMW Australia claims it will offer you the “ultimate i8 collector status” if you’re the one buying it.
On the other hand, the remaining five BMW i8 Protonic models will all be Frozen Black and all of them are coming with a price tag of AUD303,300 which translates to roughly $239,093 at today’s exchange rates. The same rate applies for the Frozen Yellow model too, if you can get your hands on it, that is. As for what makes these cars special, you should know it’s not just the exterior color, even though the engine specs remain the same.
Inside the cabin you’ll also find small touches that set these Protonic i8s apart from the rest of the crowd. You’ll find “i8” embossed on the front headrests and the door sill strips bear the lettering “Protonic Frozen Black (or) Yellow Edition”. Furthermore, there’s Amido Black BMW iSpheric full leather inside, with yellow contrast stitching around the dashboard and center console. Black ceramic detailing is featured around the gear selector lever and central iDrive controller. The finishing touch to the cabin are the specially designed floor mats with leather piping and yellow stitching.
