To many enthusiasts, the Rolls Royce Cullinan is a bit blasphemous. To Rolls Royce aficionados, the idea of a Rolls Royce SUV is simply vulgar. The entire purpose of the brand is to be as elegant, luxurious and opulent as possible. Adding any sort of sport utility to that equation is taking away from the tradition of Rolls Royce. However, dollars and cents often get in the way of tradition and luxury SUVs are extremely profitable at the moment, hence why Bentley and Lamborghini have both sprung for high-riding SUVs.
While the idea of a Roller having some actual utility ruining the luxury, though, fear not. Some new spy photos have surfaced, showing off the cabin of the new Rolls Royce Cullinan. (we don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen here)
In these spy photos, the first thing that stands out is the steering wheel. Mainly, it’s a BMW steering wheel. Though, that’s likely just due to testing and Rolls will have a proper wheel for the production Cullinan. The rest of the cabin, though, seems to be typical Rolls Royce. The gorgeously-sculpted air vents and organ-stop vent knobs are still present. There’s also the new gauge cluster that debuted on the new Phantom.
What’s interesting is that the infotainment screen is deep set into the dash, much like a BMW. It will be just as interesting to see if the Cullinan carries the same art gallery dash trim as in the new Phantom. It doesn’t seem like it from these spy photos but we can’t be sure from them. It might be something dedicated only for the Phantom. The rest of the controls also seem to be pulled from the Phantom.
The idea of a Rolls Royce SUV is a foreign one but, if the interior is any indicator, the Cullinan won’t be any less luxurious than the stunning Phantom. Plus, Rolls is sort of against the term SUV, as it doesn’t want to make the Cullinan sound like anything utilitarian. Instead, the call it a “high-riding” luxury car.
