BMW factory driver Tom Blomqvist has been named as Andretti Autosport’s second Formula E driver for season four. The BMW driver in the DTM championship was present at the preseason test in Valencia after testing the Andretti car in a private test. Blomqvist replaces Robin Frijns at Andretti for the new season, and is set to make his Formula E debut next month in the season opener in Hong Kong.
He is also expected to remain part of BMW’s DTM line-up, although the German touring car series, which clashed with Formula E once last season, has yet to announce its 2018 calendar.
BMW will join Formula E as an official manufacturer for Season 5. BMW has confirmed earlier this year that it will build a brand new powertrain to be used by the MS Amlin Andretti team in 2018/19. But ahead of the first season as a Formula E team, BMW continues its partnership with Andretti Team in the upcoming Season 4.
Formula E teams are allowed two driver changes per season, but not in the final three races unless it is a case of force majeure. Such cases are at the discretion of the race stewards at each event.
