You’ll probably remember the white BMW M5 in the footage below. We’ve seen it before defeating incredible rivals on the drag strip and that gave us reason to believe that the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 under its hood makes a bit more than the claimed 750 HP. After all, how can we explain the velocities this four-seat mid-size sedan is capable of reaching over such short distances? Today it’s taking on yet another impressive beast, one that definitely doesn’t belong on a drag strip.
I’m talking about a Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG. I’m writing it that way because this is an older model, before the whole Mercedes-AMG madness started. It’s also using a different engine than the most recent incarnation of the S63 badge, but it’s still a bi-turbo V8. Though, the horsepower reading is considerably lower, as the video claims it may be making a bit over 600 HP.
On the other side of the drag strip we have one of the fastest M5 models we’ve ever seen, a car that managed to outrun proper supercars in the past. It is apparently making over 750 HP as the owner claims and we think that figure may be a conservative estimate. The race between these two is a bit of a rollercoaster too, as it seems like the M5 had some traction issues as soon as the driver hit the throttle.
We also have to point out that the Merc is showing some serious speed, despite its age and power deficit compared to the M5. It definitely looked like it had the upper hand in the first part of the race but then the M5 got it together and showed why we’re so impressed with it in the first place.
