We all know that the BMW X7, the brand’s newest and largest SUV, is on its way. Designed to compete with cars like the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class and Land Rover Autobiography, the BMW X7 will be a large, three-row luxury SUV. It will also serve as the brand’s luxury flagship, with luxury and technology at 7 Series levels and higher. So it will be a very profitable, very important car for BMW in the coming years. The X7 has recently been caught testing near Munich, the home of BMW’s headquarters. (We don’t own the photos but they can be seen here)
In these new spy photos, we can see just how massive the new BMW X7 is going to be. It’s enormous and clearly has room enough for seven people. The roofline is flat and squared off at the back, to accommodate passengers in the third row while keeping their heads intact. While that isn’t the sexiest design, it’s functional and makes sense. Plus, it’s in line with its competition. In fact, it actually looks quite similar to the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class.
We can also see that it has Kidney Grilles are large enough to inhale small moose. So the X7 might look more like the concept car than many people had previously hoped. Hopefully that’s where the similarities to the concept end, as it was pretty hideous. Thankfully, the headlights seem normal, rather than the oddly thin ones of the concept.
This BMW X7 test mule was very heavily camouflaged, so there really isn’t a lot we can learn from seeing it. However, we can tell that, proportionally, it will be massive and boxy, so as to fit the requisite amount of humans. We can assume that the standard variant will pack seven seats while there may be a high-end variant that only has one back seat, a la an unnamed Rolls Royce SUV.
