This might not be too exciting of news for many BMW enthusiasts who fancy themselves purists. While the current-generation BMW 1 Series is a fan favorite, its upcoming replacement is already maligned by those same fans. That’s because its switching to a new front-wheel drive platform, dubbed FAAR, rather than the rear-drive platform of the current car. This has upset many enthusiasts. If you’re curious, though, the new 1 Series has been caught on a car carrier, wearing a lot of camouflage. (We don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen here)
In these photos, we see some of the front end and a bit of the side profile of the car but the rest is wrapped in camo. At the front, its headlights don’t seem to be connected to the Kidney Grilles, which is good as that design is getting a bit tired. Though, there is still a lot of camo at the front, so we could be wrong on that.
This specific car seems to be equipped with some sort of M Sport package as well. Its sporty wheels, blue brake calipers and seemingly large front air intakes hint at this being a sportier model or at least just one with an M Sport package.
Just its shape doesn’t seem to look bad, though. Sure, it’s front end is a bit nose-heavy looking, with a long front overhang for a BMW, but it’s not too bad. It does look big, though. If you look in one of the pictures, the 1 Series looks almost as big as the MINI Countryman in front of it.
While it might not be the sexiest or most thrilling BMW, we’re excited about the upcoming 1 Series. BMW has proven that it knows how to make fun front-wheel drive-based cars, with the X1 and X2, so we expect the brand to kick it up a notch for the 1 Series. We’ll have to wait to find out.
