German tuner AC Schnitzer seems to be on a roll recently. After wowing us with their take on the BMW M5 and then with their even more impressive M850i xDrive – a worthy precursor to the real deal M8 – the company is making waves in the tuning world, especially at the 2018 Essen Motor Show.
This venue is starting to gain some traction. Not long ago, it used to be just a hall filled with some rather outlandishly tuned cars. Today though it has a wider audience than ever, with more and more tuners gathering in the German city in November to showcase their latest findings. The AC Schnitzer M5 is no exception, putting on a show for the curious, alongside its M850i brother, which also starred in a short presentation video last week.
The M5 though is a full-on M car and that means that, even though the two share the same basic 4.4-liter V8 under the hood, the power they deliver is quite different, even after a tune. The AC Schnitzer M5 comes with 700 HP and 850 Nm of torque. Not only that, but AC Schnitzer is also offering a 3-year warranty on its products and up to 5 years worldwide, something you don’t see anywhere else in the tuning world today.
They also have a couple of other upgrades for the M5, from new wheel designs to new suspension setups, aero bits and even interior trims. The thing is, while all this looks great on paper – and on film apparently – there are plenty of tuners out there who don’t back up their claims with real-life performance. Well, it’s not the case here though as AC Schnitzer turned the M5 into the fastest sedan on the Sachsenring – their testing ground – in the hands of Jorg Muller.
