The BMW X5 M is about to get replaced with a new version, based on the recently unveiled G05 X5. The new model will most likely be unveiled somewhere towards the end of 2019 and until then we’ll still have to make due with the F85 incarnation. To be honest, the current X5 M delivers everything you could possibly want from a high-performance SUV, but it will be interesting to see how the new model shapes up.
Since the F85 X5 M has been around for quite some time now, tuning kits have been developed by companies around the world. One of the most prolific is DINAN, the US-based specialist in creating impressive BMWs. The guys offer a wide variety of parts for the X5 M, not just power upgrades but for the sake of this video we’ll focus on that. The description says this particular X5 M got a piggyback tune from DINAN and that it should develop around 625 HP right now, a bit more than the standard 567 HP.
On the other side of the drag strip lined up a car that was developed to be taken to the track every once in a while. Well, maybe it’s not the Hellcat or the Demon, but every Dodge Challenger has some dragster DNA in it. This is a Scat Pack model which means it has a 6.4-liter V8 under the hood rated for 485 HP and 475 lb-ft of torque. Those are seriously lower figures compared to the X5 M and you also need to remember that the Dodge is rear-wheel drive unlike the AWD BMW.
Some would expect the BMW to win this drag race easily, considering the horsepower difference and the fact that it should launch better due to its xDrive system. However, the Challenger didn’t come here to lose and it seems like it has a pretty good driver behind the wheel, keeping wheelspin to a minimum.
Who won in the end? Check out the video to find out.
