By now, we know that the G80 BMW M3 will have an all-wheel drive option. For the first time, there will be two drivetrain options for the M3 and one of them will feature four driven wheels, also an M3 first. And it looks like BMW M is testing out its latest xDrive system, as the M3 was just caught testing in the snow. (We don’t own the spy photos but you can see them here)
In these new photos, the upcoming G80 BMW M3 is seen wearing heavy camouflage in the snow. There’s too much camo to make out any significant exterior details of this new M3 but it’s obviously based on the current G20 3 Series. So it gets the same taillights and unique Hofmeister Kink as the 3er. It also seems to have regular 3 Series side mirrors, not M-styled ones. Though, that’s almost certainly just because this is a test mule and not a production-ready car.
We can tell this is a proper BMW M3, and not just a regular 3 Series, based on its exhausts. The quad exhausts are dead giveaways that this is an M Division product and not just a standard Bimmer. So even though the rest of the car seems relatively normal, the exhausts give its M nature away.
We also think this might be the all-wheel drive version. There’s no real way for us to tell but it has two different sets of wheels on it. That might not mean anything (again, this is just a test mule) but it might mean that BMW is testing two different winter compound tires to see which has better traction at each driven axle. Or it could just be nothing. Who knows.
The G80 BMW M3 will make its debut soon enough and we’ll finally get to see what an all-wheel drive M3 is like. We can’t wait.
