Yesterday we showed you a Competition M5 claiming to be the fastest in the world on the drag strip, especially in the 1/4 mile run. The 10.24s run we saw it pull would make it one of the fastest around, no doubt, but as far as the world record claim goes, we’re not convinced. Not to mention the fact that it was tuned and when that’s taken into account, the optics change a bit. Today we’re taking another look at this car though, this time going up against a proper sportscar.
I’m talking about the C7 Corvette, a car that basically wrote history when it was unveiled. In my book, the current Stingray is the best Chevy ever made, with the ZR1 version, for example, bringing a hell of a lot of performance for the buck. In the video below we get to see the Z06 version going up against the M5 Competition. Right about now I have to mention that both cars are tuned.
The uploader claims that the Corvette’s 6.2-liter supercharged V8 got a new pulley, a new ECU map, new exhaust system and a cold air intake. All in all though, we have no idea how much power it’s making. However, it could very well be over the 700 HP mark, easily, as the Z06 in standard guise makes some 650 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the Vette is rear-wheel drive and it does require a pretty darn good driver to launch it properly.
The M5 Competition comes with a JB4 tune which should upgrade the output of the 4.4-liter V8 from 621 HP to over 700 HP, according to the video uploader. While the M5 is considerably heavier, it does benefit from the added traction offered by the all-wheel drive system and let me tell you, before you watch the video, the BMW definitely makes the most of it.
