It seems as if the reveal for the next-generation BMW X5 M is imminent. Test mules are running around the Nurburgring seemingly everyday, with new videos and photos surfacing quite rapidly at this point. Even though we saw some leaked photos a couple of weeks ago and a spy video last week, there’s yet another video of the M Division’s biggest brute lapping the ‘Ring today.
In this new spy video from Automotive Mike, we get to see the new BMW X5 M showing off its skills at Germany’s most famous race track. Being that the camouflage is the same as it was last time we saw it, there’s not much new to see here.
However, it’s interesting to see how fast and capable it is for a nearly 2.5 ton SUV. In Automotive Mike’s description, he reckons that the X5 M has active anti-roll bars to help keep such a heavy car so flat through corners. We agree that seems like a likely addition to the big Bimmer. It will be interesting to see what sort of high-end chassis technology the BMW X5 M gets, as it’s going to be one of the most powerful and expensive M cars yet. It’s also going to be one of the heaviest.
Under the hood, a 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 will power the X5 M with at least 600 hp. It’s likely to pack a bit more than that but we don’t know any official specs. Even when we saw the car in the flesh in BMW’s closed room showing, BMW execs didn’t have specs for it just yet. Hell, even some design elements of the car we saw in person weren’t finalized yet.
Even still, it seems like there’s a lot of buzz surrounding the BMW X5 M at the moment so we’re hoping that leads to a reveal sooner than later.
