Earlier today, we saw some spy photos of the upcoming BMW X6 and its new interior, which actually isn’t so new. Now, some more spy photos have surfaced but this time of the upcoming G80 BMW M3. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a camouflaged G80 test mule before but it’s one of the better looks we’ve gotten of it. (We don’t own the spy photos but check them out here)
In these photos, we see the next-gen BMW M3 on a car carrier, completely wrapped in camo. There isn’t much new we can see of the new M3 except for the fact that we can see its underbelly. It’s nothing too radical or groundbreaking, as we can’t see all of it and it’s just really the exhaust we can see. There’s a bit of rear suspension visible but not too much. I was trying to see if I could see front axles, indicating it being an all-wheel drive variant but the photos don’t show that far underneath the car. But it’s still cool to see.
This next-gen BMW M3 is a very exciting car because it’s one that has a chance to be the best M3 in a long time. The new G20-gen 3 Series has excellent bones for making a proper performance sedan, so the M3 should be excellent.
Powering the next M3 will be a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged I6 engine based on the current B58 engine and will be dubbed “S58”. It’s an all-new engine that will develop between 475-500 hp, as we’ve learned from the BMW X3 M which uses the same engine. Thankfully, no fancy water-injection will be used, as it’s not necessary for the S58 to make so much power.
Not only will it be getting an all-new engine but it will be the first time the M3 will get all-wheel drive. There will also be a Competition model that will be available at launch and it will be the one to push 500 hp or more. So it’s all very exciting stuff.
