When the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe first debuted, it was hard for me to not dream about driving one through some twisty European roads, potentially with Margot Robbie riding shotgun, like Clark Griswold staring out of the window at night. That’s because the new 8er GC is a seductive car that invokes images of romantic grand tours and high-speed, stylish travel. If your imagination is as wild as my own, then the news of the 8 Series Gran Coupe configurator going live is exciting.
On BMW’s German site, you can now configure your very own 8 Series Gran Coupe. Which is surprisingly early, as configurators typically take a bit to launch after the official reveal of a car. However, it’s here and you can play around with it, configuring your very own grand-touring dream.
What’s nice is that all engine options are available to choose from at the moment. So the BMW M850i Gran Coupe, 840i and 840d are all available for configuration. Obviously, the M850i is the one you want to configure, as it’s the one with the big twin-turbo V8. Though, that’s not to say the 840i or 840d are bad. In fact, they’re superb cars that offer all of the same looks, handling and luxury as the M850i, just with less power and straight-line speed.
Personally, I don’t love the color options. They’re essentially the same exterior paint choices that the 8 Series Coupe gets and I’m not sure they all work as well with the Gran Coupe. For instance, I love the 8 Series Coupe in Sunset Orange but it doesn’t seem to work as well on the Gran Coupe. It should have a few more elegant color choices and I think the color I like best is the Individual Frozen Bluestone metallic. That, with the two-tone red and black interior really revs my engine. Though, I’m not really the most stylish of people, so take that with a grain of salt, I guess.
Whichever colors, options or packages you choose, have fun with the 8 Series Gran Coupe configurator and build your dream Bimmer.
