The Rolls-Royce Cullinan took the world by storm. There were rumors about the British manufacturer planning to bring out an SUV before they confirmed it, but nobody really expected it to happen. Then, boom!, Rolls-Royce confirmed they were working on a ‘high-riding vehicle’ and the world went crazy. After years of teasing and tests, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan was unveiled and deliveries kicked off late last year.
The effects were felt almost instantly, as Rolls-Royce declared 2018 to be its best year yet, selling a record number of cars. 2019 looks even better and it seems like demand for the Cullinan is going through the roof right now. Just to be sure we’re on the same page here, ‘record-breaking sales’ don’t mean the same thing in Goodwood as they do in Munich. While that would be close to 2.5 million cars sold for BMW, in the case of Rolls-Royce, the ‘shattering’ record set by the brand was under 5,000 units.
Thus, if you’re thinking about getting a Cullinan and you truly afford it, just go ahead and buy it. It’s definitely one of the most luxurious SUV you can get today and the guys from Roadshow seem to agree. Their tester had a sticker of just under $400,000 and they still recommended the car, if you can truly afford it. Why? Because it does everything brilliantly. Just think of a Phantom on stilts, if you will.
The truth of the matter is, the Phantom is a bit more refined, a bit more luxurious and a bit quieter. That’s not accidental, as Rolls-Royce said from the get go that the Phantom will remain its crown jewel. And yet, the differences between the two are really small. The Cullinan can also cover some rougher roads and that could give it the edge in some buyers’ books.
