If you’re familiar with the Rolls-Royce brand and the way they do things, you might already know what Black Badge stands for. Apart from having black accents here and there along with a black Spirit of Ecstasy, the Black Badge models also come with a bit more power and better dynamics. According to AutoGuide, Rolls-Royce is working on such a version of the Cullinan right now. That’s right, the high-riding vehicle is about to get faster.
At the moment, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan uses a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 developed by BMW, capable of delivering 563 HP and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque to all four corners of the car. That’s enough to send the massive SUV to 60 mph in about 5 seconds, an impressive feat already. According to AutoGuide, the British brand submitted a filing to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) earlier this year, mentioning a Black Badge Cullinan. If that’s true, we’ll get to see a more powerful version in the near future.
It will be interesting to see just how different this upgraded model will be compared to the ‘regular flavor’ Cullinan. Guessing the specs would be a feeble job right now for a good reason: all Black Badge models unveiled so far use a different engine. The Ghost, Wraith and Dawn Black Badge all use the 6.6-liter V12. The Cullinan and the Phantom both use the 6.75-liter unit so it’s going to be interesting to see how far Rolls-Royce goes.
The most powerful car the Brits made so far was the Wraith Black Badge, with 624 HP and 642 lb-ft (870 Nm) of torque. If those numbers will be beat with the introduction of the new high-performance Rolls we’ll be witnessing history in the making.
