In the last few years, tuning companies have had to adapt to a global market approach. Products from anywhere in the world are easier to source these days, making locations irrelevant. The guys from G-Power definitely wanted to make the most of all the tech available today and they are now offering remote, over the air upgrades for your BMW M and Mercedes-AMG cars.
G-Power is mainly known for tuning BMW M models into oblivion, but lately they have also expanded to offerings from arch-rivals Mercedes-AMG. No matter what car you’re driving though, you can upgrade its horsepower reading by quite a lot in a matter of minutes, from the comfort of your own garage.
Of course, you’ll need to order an OBD reader from G-Power before you can actually do anything but once you have it, things are pretty straightforward.
All you need to do is read the original ECU map of your car, using the OBD port, send the data to G-Power via e-mail. The tuner will then create an upgraded file for your car’s specific readouts and send it over. Once you get it, you can upload it into your car’s ECU and that’s about it.
Of course, there are some risks, such as something going wrong when uploading the new ECU map, so always proceed with caution.
The fact that G-Power is located in Germany definitely put off a lot of customers from other countries. Now, that’s not the case anymore, as the upgrades can be installed around the world. As for how much power you can add using this method, it varies. The B58 engine can be taken up to 410 HP, the S55 unit to 540 HP while the F10 S63 could go up to 700 HP, with only an ECU tune and 10 minutes spent in the garage.
