It almost seems odd that the BMW M5 is due for a facelift so soon. It’s been out for a couple of years now but it’s still so impressive and exciting that it still seems brand-new. However, the 5 Series on which it’s based is a year older and ready for an LCI facelift. So the M5 will be getting one soon too and we get to catch a glimpse of it in these new spy photos. (We don’t own the spy photos but you can see them here)
There’s not a whole lot to see in these spy photos, as this facelifted BMW M5 test mule is covered in camouflage and doesn’t seem to be all that different from the current car anyway. However, it does seem to get new headlights, which are actually quite interesting.
The headlight housings themselves are slightly different, as they’re completely flat on the bottom. The current 5er headlights have a little notch in them where they connect to the Kidney Grilles. The updated BMW M5 ditches those notches.
In addition to that, the actual lighting elements inside the housings look different. The current car’s headlight design features two semi-circle lights, which are reminiscent of the old-school twin-circle lights of old-school Bimmers. Now, the updated BMW M5 seems to have very sharp, squared off light bars that sort of recreate the old-school design.
Aside from that, there’s really not much to see here. The taillights look like they’re a bit different but we can’t see them all because of the camouflage. Still, the new headlights look interesting and give the car a sharper, more modern look. We’re interested to see what other changes the M5 might get; such as the M8’s new shift lever and digital instrument panel.
We don’t know exactly when this BMW M5 LCI will debut but we’re keeping a close eye on it.
