At the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, the Buchloe-based automaker has just unveiled the 2020 ALPINA B3 Sedan. Just like the B3 Touring, the new sedan features the straight-six 3.0 liter S58 engine with Bi-Turbo charging. The engine is featured in the BMW X3 M and X4 M, and will be under the hood of the upcoming M3 and M4.
With an output of 340 kW (462 hp) between 5,000 and 7,000 rpm the engine delivers impressive driving performance. The maximum torque of 700 Nm is available between 3,000 and 4,250 rpm.
The ALPINA specific cooling system ensures the thermal stability of the high-performance engine even under highest loads. It comprises a large-volume intercooler, enlarged cooling air ducts and a powerful main cooling package paired with a 1,000 Watt electric fan. This is supplemented by two additional external coolers.
With a top speed of 303 km/h (sedan) respectively 300 km/h (Touring), the new 2020 ALPINA B3 is one of the fastest of its kind.
Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3.8 seconds (Touring 3.9 seconds) and from 0 to 200 km/h in 13.4 seconds (Touring 13.9 seconds).
Under the skin, the B3 gets a set of fully adaptive dampers and larger stabilizer bars as well as Eibach springs. The 2020 ALPINA B3‘s drivetrain includes an electronically controlled rear axle limited-slip differential as standard for enhanced driving dynamics.
Along with the standard BMW Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus, the 2020 ALPINA B3 is fitted with a Comfort Plus mode with a softer ride.
The performance brake system comprises of four-piston fixed brake calipers with brake discs of 395 mm diameter on the front axle and floating brake calipers with brake discs of 345 mm diameter on the rear axle. Drilled discs and uprated calipers are available as an option.
The new 2020 ALPINA B3 comes with ALPINA DYNAMIC 19‘‘ alloy wheelset featuring a 5×4 spoke design, which is standard, or an optional ALPINA CLASSIC 20‘‘ forged wheelset with a traditional minimalistic 20 spoke design.
Compared to regular alloy wheels, these weight-optimized forged wheels made using high-density aluminum reduces unsprung masses by around 13.7 kg per vehicle.
Design wise, the new premium sedan features a front apron with large air intakes, a sporty rear apron and small diffusor fins. Integrated in the diffuser is a sports exhaust system with quad pipes.
The ALPINA Blue metallic and ALPINA Green metallic paint finishes are standard, but there is also a wide variety of BMW and BMW Individual paint finishes available to choose from.
Inside, the 2020 ALPINA B3 is getting the usual range of upgrades. That means new, unique displays in the digital dashboard, a build plaque on the dashboard, and luxurious LAVALINA leather.
Unfortunately the new ALPINA mid-size sedan won’t come to the United States, but it will be available in other global markets later this year.
