BMWBLOG headed to Seattle and Vancouver to test drive the all-new 2014 BMW X5. At the International Media Event we also have the opportunity to sample the new 4 Series Coupe, along with the 3 Series Gran Turismo and the new Competition Package offered for the M5 and M6 models.
All these models go on sale this Fall in the U.S. with the new 2014 X5 sDrive35i starting at $53,725 and the 2014 BMW X5 xDrive35i priced at $56,025. The 2014 BMW X5 xDrive35d price is $57,525 and the 2014 BMW X5 xDrive50i will start at $69,125. All prices include $925 destination and handling.
The price for the BMW 428i Coupe starts at $46,000. The BMW 428i Coupe is powered by a 2.0 liter inline-four which makes 240 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. From 0 to 60 mph the 428i Coupe is expected to run in 5.6 seconds.
Under the hood, the BMW 435i Coupe sports a 3.0 liter inline-six TwinScroll turbocharged unit producing 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission (an optional six-speed manual is offered).
The new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo will arrive in the US, as both a 328i GT and a 335i GT.
The most powerful variant offered is the 335i GT powered by a 3.0 liter turbocharged engine developing 225 kW/306 hp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). BMW 335i Gran Turismo accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.4 seconds and has a full consumption of 7.7 liters per 100 km. A six-speed manual gearbox comes standard while the eight-speed automatic is optional.
The 575 horsepower Competition Package for M5 and M5 comes with a series of upgrades to the chassis and ride settings. The M engineers have revised the suspension and damping systems, the stabilizer bars have also been more tautly tuned. In the BMW M5 this adjustment has resulted in a lowering of the car by around 10 millimeters.
The M Dynamic mode of the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system is even more acutely geared to sporty handling characteristics. The package additionally includes exclusively designed 20-inch M light-alloy wheels style 601M with performance tires. The customers also have the option to choose the 343M 20-inch wheels.
The sport exhaust system comes with black chrome tailpipes, an element that differentiates the M5 Competition Package from the “standard” model.
