A new Austin Yellow BMW F80 M3 owner from New Jersey took his vehicle to a drag strip and got a surprising result. While the general belief is that a bone stock M3 should do the quarter mile in low 12 seconds, his vehicle shattered that notion! He ran his performance car with a 11.66 sec time – all with stock tires, stock engine and stock exhaust.
This is without a doubt a valuable showcase of high-performance capabilities by the brand new BMW M3. We can compare this with the previous generation BMW M3 tested by Car and Driver magazine which has shown that the 2011 M3 equipped with an M-DCT transmission accelerated from 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds and went on to record a 12.4 second quarter mile time. Quite an improvement in regards to that for the new generation and great result for BMW overall.
BMW F80 M3 is powered by a 3.0-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine developing 425 horsepower. It combines two mono-scroll turbochargers with variable valve control (Double-VANOS and Valvetronic) and high-precision direct injection, providing the vehicle with great performance numbers. A stock M3 will get from 0-60mph (0-100km/h) in 4.1 seconds. Car itself weighs a little bit over 3500 lbs with 18″ wheels standard.
A complete show of the BMW M3’s capabilities during a high-speed run at the drag strip can be seen in the video added below. With some afermarket parts and a tuned engine, it will probably run even better times.
