The official and final Nurburgring lap time for the BMW M4 GTS is now available – 7:27.88 minutes. The impressive Ring time puts the performance version of the F82 M4 in the same league with various supercars and sets – among street-legal midsize coupes – a high bar.

BMW has now released the full video featuring M engineer Jörg Weidinger who recorded the lap with an onboard camera. The entire round is narrated by the experienced test driver allowing for an even more exciting “ride” on the toughest circuit in the world. As seen in the video, Weidinger is a pro driver and his driving skills are impeccable – a great combination with the M4 GTS’s own qualities.

The increased engine power to 500 hp in the BMW M4 GTS is just one of the variables in a complicated formula and likely not the most important. The top of the M4 performance comes from lightweight construction, suspension, steering and aerodynamics – areas that can be improved much more difficult than installing an even more powerful engine.

Compared to the series M4, the extendable front splitter and large rear wing help significantly with downforce on both axles ensuring that the adjustable coilover suspension can properly handle all that power and grip.

So where does that put BMW on a list of fastest cars around the coolest and likely most dangerous track in the world? Coming in 40th, the M4 GTS is in the company of some great cars, some of them more track oriented and engineered. The previous generation of the almighty Porsche 911 GT3 RS ranks just below the M4 GTS. Faster than the M4 GTS were some more expensive track machines, like the Porsche 911 Turbo S (991) 7:26.00, Nissan GT-R (R35) Toshio Suzuki 7:26.70, Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 ( 997) 7:27.00 and McLaren MP4-12C Horst von Saurma 7:28.00.
