The next chapter in the book of the M5 nameplate is rapidly coming up. Next year we’ll get to see the new BMW M5 unveiled in all its glory and all our questions answered but until then, there’s still plenty of testing to be done. And German engineers want to benefit from the lovely weather Europe is still experiencing these days, before the Nurburgring is closed for the winter.
Notice how we said ‘German engineers’ and not ‘Bavarian engineers’ as all companies are rushing to get their final checks done before the break. That includes Audi and their upcoming A8 flagship. Rumors about the D5 generation have been going around for quite some time now and the car was even spotted out testing before, but few details are known by now.
Scheduled to be launched next year, the BMW 7 Series competitor will seemingly have a completely new design both inside and out. Long overhangs will be used once again for the Audi A8 while inside the cabin most buttons will be replaced by touch-sensitive surfaces, similar to those found on the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, if you will.
Under the hood a variety of diesel V6 engines and petrol V8 units will be used. For the top of the S8, a twin-turbo 4-liter V8 from Porsche could be adapted for better performance.
Leaving the A8 behind, the BMW F90 M5 is also featured in the video below.The M5 we already know that it will be offered with a twin-turbo V8 engine good for about 600 HP. Chip in the drastic loss of weight and the (possibly) optional all-wheel drive system and we’re probably looking at a car that will do 0-60 in under 4 seconds, easy. Hopefully, apart from straight line performance, the car will also handle turns like an M5 should.
