Even though we’re just days away from seeing the brand new BMW G30 5 Series revealed in full, the F90 M5 is still a few months away from its unveil. Therefore engineers and factory test drivers continue testing the new uber-sedan on the Nurburgring, at the highest speeds possible. In this latest video, the powerful sedan shows the good ol’ oversteering character we’ve all grown to love over the years. Being pushed hard, at times, it seems to be lifting off the ground due to the velocity infused by the rumored 600 HP under the hood.
That’s also a good sign regarding the weight of the new M model. Sources claim about 100 kilos (220 lbs) will be dropped off its waist, intelligently. That means, the top of the car will lose most of the weight so that the center of gravity remains as close to the ground as possible for the best handling characteristics. Chip in the extra power and the added traction and you might be surprised by how the new M5 will perform in the end.
Since the upcoming BMW M550i model will accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in about 4 seconds – according to our sources inside Munich – we expect the M5 to beat that, thanks to its extra 150 HP. Of course, the chassis and brakes will also be tuned to offer the best performance in the range while the suspension will include new elastokinematics for enhanced grip. All that remains to be seen now is when BMW will take the veils off its newest M5 model.
