The BMW M2 is the car with the most bang for the buck in BMW’s current portfolio, but it’s a peculiar M car nonetheless. Compared to its brothers – the M3/M4 – it lacks a proper M engine developed from the ground up for it and it lacks in choices for the buyer as well, being offered with a limited amount of optional features, including just four paint hues. However, due to its beautiful curves, the M2 makes the most out of what it’s offered and I have to admit Sapphire Black never looked so good.
Sapphire Black is one of those colors that’s been around for ages but was left mainly ignored, even though thousands of cars made by BMW have been wearing it for decades. Every once in a while though, there’s a model that looks so good, it can combine the old with the new and lead to greatness. Like this BMW M2 that also happens to wear a bunch of M Performance and AC Schnitzer parts.
As you can obviously notice, the German tuner provided a front carbon fiber splitter as well as canards installed on the sides of the front bumper. A new set of forged AC Schnitzer wheels were also installed on all four corners of the car while out back we’re looking at a carbon fiber diffuser from the same tuner as well as a new wing on top of the boot lid. As for the M Performance bits, there’s a set of carbon fiber mirror covers installed, as well as a new steering wheel and carbon fiber trims inside the cabin.
As for the performance of the car, the Abu Dhabi people didn’t mention an upgrade but we do know that AC Schnitzer is offering a kit for 420 HP and up to 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque. With those new figures the M2 can apparently go from standstill to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds, on par with the more powerful M4.
