The second generation BMW X4 was revealed to the public this year, on Valentine’s Day of all days. It brings forward a completely new design that was inspired by the first gen model and takes things to a whole new level. At the same time, the new X4 comes with brand new engines and a new interior to mention, just a few of the novelties. However, BMW decided to put together a video showcasing the two models side by side, to thoroughly explain the differences between them.
The original was sold in over 200,000 units over its production span and it can be called a success considering it’s a niche product to begin with. The new X4 comes to fill those big shoes and the design will most likely help it achieve that goal. There’s an increase in length (+81 mm), width (+37 mm) and wheelbase length (+54 mm) compared with the outgoing model. With extravagantly styled and dynamically stretched lines, the new Sports Activity Coupe adds an eye-catching athlete to the BMW X model family.
Inside the cabin you’ll find a modern, premium feel. There’s an interesting, trademark blend of robustness and high-class elegance. The cockpit is designed clearly around the driver, in typical BMW fashion with redesigned sports seats and knee pads.
The three new lines available – xLine, M Sport X and M Sport – enable effective personalization. The BMW X4 is available for the first time with exclusive options from the BMW Individual portfolio, allowing a vehicle configuration closely tailored to the customer’s personal style.
Leaving the looks aside, there’s a claimed improvement in terms of performance as well hiding underneath the sheet metal of the second generation model. First-class chassis systems are now fitted as standard or available as options: Variable Sport Steering, Performance Control, Adaptive M suspension, M Sport differential and M Sport brakes. The vehicle weight was lowered by up to 50 kilograms compared to the predecessor model and the BMW X4 now has the most efficient aerodynamics in its segment with a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.30. All of this and more is detailed in the video below.
