Along with the first images of the exterior design of the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, the interior design was also unleashed onto the interwebs. Several Instagram accounts and the original source from Singapore have posted the photos, which can now be seen below. There aren’t many surprises here though – the cabin mimics the one in the 8 Series Coupe with small touches and changes. The steering wheel, dashboard, center console and front seats are all identical to the Coupe. The small changes revolve around the buttons and controls on the door which compared to the Coupe are now made of aluminum and not plastic.
Other than that, the design is identical for the front passengers. In the rear, you’ll notice that there are three rear seatbelts despite being designed as individual seats. The idea here is for the 8 Series Gran Coupe to be approved as a five seater, but it’s fair to say that the middle seat is for small-sized passengers or for someone traveling short distances.
There is also a generous panoramic roof (split in the middle) which extends all the way to the back for some additional light. The liner is covered in a beautiful blue Alcantara, while the seats feature a two-tone (white and blue) leather.
Being longer than the coupe, the 8 Series Gran Coupe had additional interior space, especially for back seat passengers. The Gran Coupe will be the most expensive member of BMW’s 8 Series lineup and will be the largest model in the range.
The model shown here is the top of the range BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupe which uses a 4.4 liter V8 powerplant with 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters). The power is sent to all wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Next year, BMW will also introduce a M8 Gran Coupe, aimed at taking on the Porsche Panamera Turbo and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door.
